Esthetics College Program Makes Beauty Its Business
Do you have an interest in working in the beauty industry? Do work
places such as spas and salons dermatologists, plastic surgeons and
other healthcare providers’ offices and cruise ships appeal to you? Have
you completed an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent,
or mature student status (19 years or older) as well as the compulsory
English Grade 12 C or U or equivalent, or skills assessment? If you
answered ‘yes’ to these questions, you may want to consider applying for
the esthetics college program at Centennial College, which is
officially known as the Esthetician program.
Having what it
takes to work in what is considered to be one of the most rapidly
growing areas of the health and wellness service industry takes the type
of training Centennial College provides its students. That’s because
this two-year esthetics college
program gives its students the knowledge and skills for spa
applications and skin care as well as business operations. But these
aren’t the only aspects that make this esthetics program, which results
in an Ontario College Diploma, stand out.
Qualified instructors
who have many years of experience in the industry, explore a
comprehensive curriculum that incorporates anatomy, physiology,
practical applications, product knowledge, sales techniques, skin care
theory, skin care practices, manicures and pedicures, spa health and
safety, introduction to wellness, and much more. Teaching of many topics
is conducted in brand new esthetician lab facilities, using
cutting-edge equipment that is common in today’s wellness and medical
spas. In addition, these labs allow instructors to teach the proper use
of specialized products, as well as how to apply knowledge of business
operations, exceptional customer service and diverse population needs to
daily operations of an esthetic business in a controlled salon or spa
environment.
To complement in-school practice this esthetics
college program gives students the chance to practice in the school’s
student clinic (which is supervised by qualified faculty) and partake in
field placements in the best spas in the city. Please be advised that
students must have completed a standard first aid and CPR (healthcare
provider level) course, a vulnerable sector background police check, and
an immunization review form before they can be sent out on the
esthetician work placement.
Upon graduating from the esthetics
college program, students are able to: perform a variety of specialized
body and skin care treatments following correct procedures and
precautions, and supporting client needs (including but not limited to
facials, manicures, pedicures, hair removal and make-up applications);
use a range of specialized equipment and products, in compliance with
established standards, regulations, policies and procedures; select and
recommend the use of esthetic products and product ingredients to
clients, taking into account health status and identified needs; develop
customer service strategies that meet and adapt to individual needs and
expectations in accordance with professional standards and ethics;
determine professional development strategies that lead to the
enhancement of work performance and career opportunities and keep pace
with industry change; and more.
